Microsoft has laid off hundreds of employees again
It has been revealed that Microsoft has laid off hundreds more people, just weeks after the biggest cutbacks in years.
The company is cutting costs despite investing billions in artificial intelligence. This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to a Washington state notice seen by the agency, more than 300 employees were notified on Monday that their positions were being cut.
A Microsoft spokesperson said the latest headcount reduction is in addition to the 6,000 job cuts announced last month.
“We continue to implement the organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace,” he said.
Microsoft’s previous layoffs hit software engineers the hardest.
However, it could not be determined on Monday which jobs were affected.
As of June 2024, the company had about 228,000 full-time employees, 55% of whom worked in the US.
The publication notes that the artificial intelligence “boom” has shaken up the tech labor market.
Companies are prioritizing AI jobs and using the technology to save money.
